It was a regular evening, but the evening sky made it beautiful when it decided to be the prettiest shade of red—the exact shade of red hues that appeared on her cheeks every time he stole glances at her. She couldn't quite understand what made the evening sky special. As she walked by the canal, just like any other day, she was captivated by the vibrantly colored skies.
The beautiful skies always allured her. Her long hair danced in the wind as she struggled to tame it. After some effort, she managed to tie her hair in a messy bun. Yet, that one rebellious strand remains out of place, framing her sculpted face. She let that hair be and focused on the vibrant shades of sky.
The water flowing beneath the vintage bridge was now tinted in shades of sky. There is something extraordinary about the relationship between water and sky. Though miles apart, they make every possible effort to blend with one another, much like two lovers deeply lost in Love. Water always finds its way back to the sky, even when it means she needs to lose her just to be with him.
She just laughed at the thought. Her mind always wanders freely over romantic thoughts, and she did not miss this chance to romanticize that evening. She kept on walking, and thoughts started clouding her mind, especially that one thought she often pondered: love.
People often claim that Love is clichéd: exaggerated, dramatic, overexplained, overdone, and whatnot. But for her, Love is a beautiful feeling trapped by various definitions, expectations, and societal norms. To her, Love is like a stunning bird with vibrant shades trapped in a golden cage.
The cage restrains Love by confining it in definitions and expectations. Still, a true understanding of Love comes when it is allowed to be free. The bird flourishes when it is set free in the wild. While everyone admires the golden cage, no one seems concerned about the bird, much like Love perceived.
Nowadays, Love is no longer a feeling; it resembles a physical, legal contract filled with a lot of terms, definitions, barters, and clauses. However, for her, Love is, above all feelings, which makes us human. She strongly believes Love cannot be described; it can only be experienced. She doesn't want to confine Love to words. Still, if she could define Love, she would say that Love is not a conscious choice but an act when you are ready to willingly do anything for that person without remorse. I don't want to tag it as a sacrifice.
It is something you do willingly. It allows you to be free from everything, where there is no need for explanations, just the ability to exist as you are without making any compromises. It is two people sharing life while maintaining their values, morals, and beliefs. In this space, two individual can be their authentic selves without fear of judgment. It is the connection you feel in your gut, not something you understand.
The sad part is that society is adamant about deciphering Love and wants to chain that feeling in various definitions and explanations. Though love is about understanding another person, few people are ready to dedicate their lives to that person. These societal norms and expectations have always burdened her. Deep down, she desires to be a free spirit in Love, much like the sky and water, without any constraints—two entities bound by one feeling—love.
In this fast-paced world, she hopes to find someone who has time for Love and is willing to invest in her and her life. She is that person who is ready to sacrifice her soul to demons for Love, but she has not met the one. She longs for someone who could read her like an open book, someone who would love her imperfections and admire her utterly confused mind.
She desires someone who appreciates her chaos and will not tame her but instead will let her be free. She is looking for someone who doesn't think she is too much or sees her as a confused soul, nor will they judge her for her life decisions. She wants someone who understands her dual mind and encourages her to be herself. The one who sees that giddy 16-year-old girl within her who believes in fairy tale romance. Most importantly, she wants someone who adores her clumsiness.
She is yet to find "the one" in a world of seven billion people. Surrounded by picture-perfect love stories, she questions whether she will ever see her own happily ever after. Sometimes, she confuses me. She claims you must experience Love, yet she has not allowed herself to feel it. Although she dislikes boundaries and limitations, she has trapped her heart in expectations, idealism, classism, and more. She hasn't given Love a chance and is uncertain if she is ready.
I believe she is purely afraid of it, scared of the pain associated with Love. She knows the higher you climb, the harder you fall, and rebuilding is tough. She knows her Love comes with the possibility of pain and keeps it at bay. Giving someone a heart is like giving them the right to annihilate you.
She believes in Love so fiercely that she is afraid to let it touch her soul. Although this fear lingers in her mind, she still believes that one day, her knight in shining Armani will appear at her doorstep and prove that Love is worth the pain and sacrifice. Until then, she continues to spread Love and strives to be that one person who makes everything easier simply by existing.
